Remark 98

by in Housing September 24, 2020

[Multifamily buildings] increase population by drawing it in from the Mainland. They don’t fit the character of the island. They are ugly.

[The project] doesn’t have to draw from the Mainland if Bowen Islanders want to live at the Cape. And by the way we design this, by nature of this being an island, the development would naturally attract those who share island values for the environment, wildlife, quietude, community, healthy active lifestyle. (Candy Ho, COB)

Remark 94

by in Housing September 24, 2020

Multifamily buildings can be built in a way where they look like large houses, and fit the architectural style of the island. They allow more land to be preserved by gathering people together. They can help create a sense of community rather than spreading people apart. They can be more affordable than single family homes. (Candy Ho, COB)

Remark 90

“Tiny homes are part of our survey, but diversity also… so little clusters of different forms and different sizes, offering options. Ownership and long term rentals in different phases and clusters.” (Candy Ho, COB)

Remark 91

“One of the things that came out of the workshop last year was a pod with forty dwellings and these features:
1/3 single family homes
small single storey homes for older poeople
shared gardens
shared common space
all connected by green space
bicycle or electric vehicle paths”

Remark 92

“Maybe we should “envision” a tiny home community on the cape and provide regular shuttle service to downtown Snugcove. A Tiny Home Estate. One useable 10 acre site could house a lot of struggling families and individuals. A small community support building for daycare and get Superstore to do daily shipments of food and supplies to keep it affordable.”
